George III (George William Frederick; 4 June 1738– 29 January 1820) was King of Great Britain and King of Ireland from 25 October 1760 until the union of these two countries on 1 January 1801, after which he was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death.

He is remembered as the King who lost America, after losing the American War of Independance. He told Adams, “I was the last to consent to the separation; but the separation having been made and having become inevitable, I have always said, as I say now, that I would be the first to meet the friendship of the United States as an independent power.
In addition to losing America he is perhaps best known as the mad king and the book, the madness of King George was based on King George III.
